Fixed effects and variance components estimation in three-level meta-analysis.

چکیده
Meta-analytic methods have been widely applied to education, medicine, and the social sciences. Much of meta-analytic data are hierarchically structured because effect size estimates are nested within studies, and in turn, studies can be nested within level-3 units such as laboratories or investigators, and so forth. Thus, multilevel models are a natural framework for analyzing meta-analytic data. This paper discusses the application of a Fisher scoring method in two-level and three-level meta-analysis that takes into account random variation at the second and third levels. The usefulness of the model is demonstrated using data that provide information about school calendar types. sas proc mixed and hlm can be used to compute the estimates of fixed effects and variance components. Estimation of Variance Components for Body Weight of Moghani Sheep Using B-Spline Random Regression Models
The aim of the present study was the estimation of (co) variance components and genetic parameters for body weight of Moghani sheep, using random regression models based on B-Splines functions. The data set included 9165 body weight records from 60 to 360 days of age from 2811 Moghani sheep, collected between 1994 to 2013 from Jafar-Abad Animal Research and Breeding Institute, Ardabil province,...
متن کاملAnalysis of Test Day Milk Yield by Random Regression Models and Evaluation of Persistency in Iranian Dairy Cows
Variace / covariance components of 227118 first lactaiom test-day milk yield records belonged to 31258 Iranian Holstein cows were estimated using nine random regression models. Afterwards, different measures of persistency based on estimation breeding value were evaluated. Three functions were used to adjust fixed lactation curve: Ali and Schaeffer (AS), quadratic (LE3) and cubic (LE4) order of...
متن کاملCorrection for bias in meta- analysis of little- replicated studies
Handling Editor: Holger Schielzeth Abstract 1. Meta-analyses conventionally weight study estimates on the inverse of their error variance, in order to maximize precision. Unbiased variability in the estimates of these study-level error variances increases with the inverse of study-level replication. Here, we demonstrate how this variability accumulates asymmetrically across studies in precision...
متن کاملEstimates of Variance Components in Random Effects Meta-analysis: Sensitivity to Violations of Normality and Variance Homogeneity
Meta-analysis is a statistical technique through which information obtained from a collection of independent studies is analyzed and synthesized, potentially providing a more complete representation of the phenomenon under investigation. Models for meta-analysis may be roughly divided into those based upon fixed effects and those based upon random effects (Field, 2001; Hedges, 1994; Hedges & Ve...
متن کاملEstimation of Genetic Components and Inheritance of Bread Wheat Agronomic Traits Using Regression Method Through Generation Mean Analysis
Studying the genetic structure of crops, including wheat, has always been one of the research priorities to increase the efficiency of breeding methods. In order to genetic analysis of some agronomic traits of bread wheat using generation mean analysis (GMA), all produced generations along with relevant parents of the two populations (Marvdasht × Rasoul and Marvdasht × Shahpasand) were evaluate...
